A Saturday story about IRL vs online meetups and meetings
How we froze on the snow-rain with BitDegree leadership and how online meetups evolve to be as good as IRL gatherings.
At a 2 hour IRL meetup one can talk to 20-30 people. At a 2 hour online meetup one can see lots of slides and matchbox-sized people, ask maybe 2-3 questions and get forced conversations in 2-3 breakout rooms. This is broken.
A possible solution for a pleasant online networking experience is a well-structured community around a certain topic.
We also state the obvious: IRL meetings help to build bonds and trust much faster than online calls. I am an introvert and generally don’t like people. But still prefer real-life experiences to online webinars or meetups.
Also, Olle really wanted this picture in this email. Whatever. And for some reason, he went into a full Dinosaur story mode two times. So I edited him out 🤏
Enjoy your Saturday ☕
